The problem with the truth is that it resides between all possible answers. The second best we can do is empirical science, which at least is consistent. If we agree about this fact, then we can save knowledge, whereas if we don’t, then knowledge will be confused with belief.
Our choice is thus between empirical science and belief. No other alternative is given. Cladistics and particle physics choose belief.
